LEGOLAND Countdown

by Megan

In 20 days, our family is going to make our first (and hopefully not last) visit to LEGOLAND California! Why do I know the exact number of days? Well because the kids and I put together a fun LEGOLAND countdown using, what else, LEGOS!

Last week I attended Mom 2.0 Summit in Scottsdale, and among many other awesome items we were gifted, we got to take home a LEGO set! LEGO was one of the main sponsors of the event, and we were given the option of taking home a Duplo set or a LEGO Classic set. It was an easy choice for me- we already had the Duplo set!

We love both LEGO Classic, LEGO Junior, and Duplo here in our house, and as a mom, I love how the LEGO sets grow with your child. My kids are no strangers to “tablet frenzy” but when they start to create with LEGO bricks, they are able to use their imaginations and experience hands-on learning.

I left the LEGO set out, and this is how I found them the next morning!

We are taking a trip to California at the end of the month (Daniel is going sailing with his brothers, and I’m going to a blog conference), and we decided it would be fun to stay an extra day and do something as a family. It wasn’t hard to decide on LEGOLAND! All three kids love LEGOs, and we know that there are activities for all ages at the park.

I thought it would be fun to do a countdown to our trip, using our new LEGO Classic set (with pieces from other sets as well, because it didn’t take more than five minutes before the new pieces were all mixed in with our collection!).

When we built our creation, the countdown was at 24 days, so I told Carter and Vanessa to each choose 6 pieces, and then I made them close their eyes and each choose 6 more!

Luckily Vanessa chose a big flat piece, so we used that as our base. I told the kids just to go to town and make whatever they wanted out of the pieces they chose!

Here is their final creation:

“Creative” is probably a good word to use to describe it! I did make them choose pieces blindly after all! The LEGO minifigures are from the Mom 2.0 conference. In the LEGO suite, we got to make LEGO nametags and minifigures, so I made Carter and Vanessa!

So each night we are taking one piece off our creation, and as we take it apart, we get closer to LEGOLAND!

Another idea you could do (if you aren’t throwing it together on the spot like I did), is you could get a LEGO set and each day add a new piece so that by the day you leave, you’ve built something! My mom has done this for my kids before, as a LEGO advent calendar.

We are so excited to visit LEGOLAND, and I’ll definitely write up a trip report after we get back, so look for that soon!

What a cute idea! I love that! I think my son has enough LEGO pieces that we could do a countdown for years out! Have fun at LEGOland! I can’t wait to hear about it! It’s definitely on our family bucket list!

That is such a cute idea! I wish we would have hit up LEGOLAND when we did our So.Cal trip a few years back!
