As I said yesterday, us Phoenix-area bloggers have had so many events lately! In my last post, I wrote about our Party In A Jar release party, and the following night, the SITS Girls were in town for a free mini blog conference sponsored by Invisalign.
Daniel and I were already in Tempe seeing a matinee musical, so he dropped me off at the Hotel Palomar, and I caught a ride home with my west side peeps. As soon as I walked upstairs, I saw Tiffany and another girl at a table, checking people in. When it was my turn to check in, I said hi to Tiffany and (re)introduced myself (we had already met at BBC last year), and then as I was getting my nametag, I did a double-take at her friend. It was none other than HOLLY HOMER!
So, yeah I may have embarrassed myself a bit by yelling calmly stating, “Oh my gosh, you’re Holly Homer! I watch all your videos!”
Hey look, this was like a celebrity sighting for me, okay? Definitely some fangirling going on. Luckily Holly was flattered at being recognized, and Tiffany took our photo, to encapsulate the moment!
So we got to hear Tiffany and Holly speak, and it was fantastic. I always love hearing Tiffany speak. She is just so passionate and always inspires me. She talked about some things that I heard last year at BBC, along with some new things that had me taking copious notes. My favorite thing she said was, “I am only in competition with my potential.”
That is so true. It’s easy to get caught up in this blogging world and feel bad when it seems like other people are getting opportunities and you’re not. I’ve been really lucky lately, but I still know that I’m quite small in the grand scheme of things! I always feel happy for my blogger friends when they get opportunities, because there are plenty to go around. It just inspires me to work harder!
Then we had a presentation by Invisalign, and it was really interesting to hear about all the new technological advances since I needed my teeth straightened! My kids will definitely have an easier experience! I’ll be writing more about this in another post, so look for it!
Then Holly talked about her Facebook strategies, since she has been wildly successful over there. She told us exactly what she does to get fans and keep engagement high. I’m not going to lie; it was a little overwhelming. In fact, this is my “I’m overwhelmed” face:
Note the forehead lines. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this but I’m turning 30 next week…
Anyway, it was just a little disappointing to hear that my autoposting means nothing on Facebook, and that I have to abandon my lovely autoposting plugin and do everything manually. Okay maybe not everything, but this is something I’ll be researching further. I love automating everything I can, but if it’s not helping in the long run, then I may need to change my strategy. Sigh. Not enough hours in the day!
Two other reasons why this event was great. First, Kate was there! She is as awesome as she looks, and you should go visit her.
Love this girl and how we help each other out with our blogs. Next up, we are going to make videos for our “about me” pages! Coming soon to two awesome blogs near you! I also got to meet Nicole, who is also in our blogging tribe (visit her too)!
And the second other reason:
Oh, and there’s another reason! During our cocktail party after the talks, I won a $50 gift card! I got to choose which store, and I chose Walmart, because I want to buy a new headboard from there. It’s $250, so I just have to win four more $50 gift cards!
So that was a fun, enlightening event, and then just a few days later, we were all together again, at Whole Foods in Paradise Valley, for an event centered around organic sun care- a perfect topic for Phoenix in May! I’ll also be writing a post soon about the different products and the things we learned, but in the meantime, we are packing up our sunscreen and heading for the beach!
I carpooled with the west side bloggers to Whole Foods, and was glad for the ride, because I participated in Weave Made’s first Twitter party the whole way there! Blogging life…it never ends!
Whole Foods gave us a tour, and then there were four different stations set up where we could learn about organic sun care and beauty products from different companies. We snacked on fruit and cheese, admired all the pretty things, and left with a big swag bag full of products!
After the event, we went to Which Wich, where I chowed down on an “Elviswich” which was all peanut butter, bananas, and honey! So good. Thank you, Steph, for being our chauffeur!
Then, last night I was supposed to go to two other events (double-booked myself without realizing it). I was supposed to go to Kate’s Chik-fil-a party, and I also won VIP tickets to see a prescreening of Blended. Unfortunately I was sick all day yesterday, so I had to cancel on both events! Super bummed, but hey, you can’t have it all!
I am feeling better today, and ready for the blog events to keep coming. Tomorrow night we leave for California. We’ll be driving two hours and spending the night in Blythe, and then Saturday morning we’ll continue on to Newport Beach and Elevate conference! Can’t wait to see some of my best girls, and Daniel will be spending the day at the beach right there with the kiddos!
It’s a busy busy blog life, but I’m loving it! Coming up- part two of this post, where I’ll tell you all the things my family has been up to lately. We’ve been busy too!

It has been busy in the blogging world lately; and I love it! I had a similar overwhelmed face but it is so great to hear all that info and guidance. Have fun on your trip!!
You made my night! I hope you are feeling a ton better!
Great post!
No problem on the driving! I had a great time with you all! :-)
I am so bummed I missed this event. I had planned to go but I couldn’t get a caregiver to watch my daughter for the night. It looks like it was great!
