Cuddling With Carter

My little guy has always been a cuddler. Even when he was a newborn, we often took naps together- bliss for a new mama!

Vanessa is a little more independent and is not much of a snuggler (unless she is watching a video, in which case she doesn't notice anything around her, and I can sneak in a few hugs).

Lately Carter and I have been lying down together in my bed, because he and Vanessa share a room, and they often go to bed at the same time. Instead of him keeping her awake, we cuddle and chat in my bed, and usually fall asleep in there. When Daniel comes to bed, he puts Carter back in his own bed.

Carter makes me laugh a lot because he likes to talk when we are cuddling, so he'll say, "Well, Mom, what should we talk about?"

One night we were telling jokes, and our conversation went like this:

Me: Why did the chicken cross the road?
Carter: Why?
Me: To get to the other side!
Carter: I've got one! What did the chicken cross?
Me: I don't know.
Carter: A drum.
Me: Why did he cross a drum?
Carter: To get to the other side! ...And I pounded him so he died before he got to the other side. I drummed him with my drumsticks!

I just laughed and laughed. A little violent imagination! When I told Daniel, he said that Carter told him that he was going to take a nap so his muscles would get big and he could kill bad guys. At least he's on the right side!

Sometimes we talk about how he's going to go to Kindergarten. He's really excited to go. Sometimes we talk about the theme for his next birthday party (Spiderman, at present).

Sometimes he just says, "I love you, Mom. You're the best!" And then he throws his little arms around me and hugs me. I hug him back and say, "I love YOU. YOU'RE the best!"

I treasure our cuddle time because I know it won't last forever! Before I know it, he'll be off to school, preferring friends over Mom, and then preferring GIRLS over Mom.

I'm not going to be a crazy mom and try to hold him back from growing up, but I will enjoy the younger years while they last!

Psst! Don't miss it:

  9. How sweet! I sure wish my little girl was a cuddler, but so far, not showing any signs at all. Hoping baby #2 will be a snuggle bunny. Thanks so much for joining us this week at the mixer!
